Vegas Baby Bonanza!

September 2, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Sat. Sept 25th
9am-1pm

September is National Baby Safety Month and we of course are all about making sure every baby is happy, healthy and safe from conception to delivery to life after birth.  Unfortunately some in our local community do not have the resources to make this ideal a reality.  That is why we are teaming up with our friends at the Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine to have our first annual “Vegas Baby Bonanza”.

We encourage our patients and any valley residents to drop off their gently used baby items and children’s clothing for two local charities, Baby’s Bounty and Safe Nest.  In return for the donations, residents will get to take part in the free Vegas Baby Bonanza at Belly Bliss.

Vegas Baby Bonanza is a celebration of all things baby in Vegas, baby!

You can learn about everything from vaccinations, lactation, in vitro fertilization, childbirthing, etc.
Doctors from Desert Perinatal and Sher Institute will be on hand from 11am-1pm to answer any special questions.

Safe Kids Clark County will also be holding their monthly free car seat check in the parking lot of Belly Bliss from 9am-12pm.

We will have free raffle prizes including spa treatments.

Light refreshments will be served.

So bring your baby and your baby gear and help us make baby safety a reality for all Vegas babies.

Dr. Paul Wilkes – Always the Philanthropist!

August 23, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Dr. Paul Wilkes is known by his patients for his amazing bedside manner and wonderful sense of humor.  But did you know he is actively involved with several charities?  Although he supports many charities, he serves on the Board of Directors for 3 that are especially important to his views.

Patrick Kelley Youth Foundation

pkyfIn keeping with the beliefs of Patrick Kelley, the PKYF believe all children should have the opportunities & resources to reach their full potential.  As a result, the foundation encourages underprivileged children to obtain an education and become involved in after-school activities.  The children are given goals (such as good grades, citizenship and school attendance) for upcoming quarters and when these goals are achieved, they are rewarded with a bicycle and helmet.  In 2010, they also hope to fund at least (2) $20,000 scholarships to high school seniors.  PKYF also believes that children can learn life long lessons through sports.  To find out more information, visit:  Patrick Kelley Youth Foundation

Jump for Joy Foundation

j4jfJump for Joy (J4J) concentrates its efforts on reversing and preventing childhood obesity.  J4J strives to educate children and their families about the dangers of living an unhealthy lifestyle and the potential issues that can occur in the future.  By raising awareness of childhood obesity in our neighborhoods and throughout the community, J4J hopes to empower our youth with confidence and health as they grow into adults.  They provide all of the following for free: fitness camps once a month (age group specific), fitness fairs, health screenings (quarterly), diabetes monitoring kits for kids in Clark County and school programs.  Additionally, they sponsor the J4J Gym Shoe Drive as a method to obtain funds and gym shoes for our youth.  To find out more information, visit: Jump for Joy Foundation

Sight for Life

sflf_0Sight for Life believes all Nevadans with treatable vision loss should have access to care regardless of their ability to pay.  Their goal is to provide charitable eye care services to those who would otherwise have no hope.  Many doctors are willing to donate their time to patients with sight threatening diseases, but often, medication and supplies are needed that cannot be covered.  Sight for Life was created to fill this void.  The foundation provides medical and surgical eye care for common diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconus and retinal detachments, as well as others.  Additionally, Sight for Life sponsors the Annual Swing for Sight Charity Golf Tournament.  To find out more information, visit: Sight for Life

Safe Kids Clark County Car Seat Event

August 22, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

carseat2Did you know that 70% of all car seats are installed incorrectly?  Don’t take a chance.  Have your child’s safety seat inspected!  Whether you already have a baby/child or are still expecting, come out for our monthly car seat check.  The experts will make sure the seat installation is correct, and also show you how to properly buckle your child to ensure their safety.

Held at the main Desert Perinatal/Belly Bliss location the 4th Saturday of every month.  This event is sponsored by Safe Kids Buckle Up and runs from 9:00 – 12:00.  Due to the overwhelming response of this event, SKCC has limited the number of vehicles served to 40 in order to have enough time with each vehicle.

Dr. Paul T. Wilkes awarded Patients’ Choice 2009

July 11, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

patients-choice-logo_0Congratulations to Dr. Paul Wilkes for having been awarded the Patients Choice award for the second consecutive year.   This honor and recognition reflects the difference Dr. Wilkes has made in his patients’ lives through the high praise submitted by his patients.

The Patients’ Choice is awarded by Vitals.com, a website that allows patients across the United States to provide independent online feedback about their experiences with their physicians.

Every month, more than 40,000 patients submit feedback about their personal experience.  Each rating includes a variety of components such as promptness, bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of office staff and overall opinions.

In the year 2009 alone, these reviews have totaled hundreds of thousands patient opinions.  Although physicians generally receive positive reviews, only a select few receive consistently rave reviews across the board.  We’re proud to say that Dr. Wilkes is one of the doctors that have received near perfect scores by his patients!  In fact, of the nation’s 720,000 active physicians, less than 6% were given this honor by their patients.

Congratulations Dr. Wilkes – we’re proud to have you on the Desert Perinatal team!

April 23, 2010 by · 1 Comment

For the past seven years, a dozen Las Vegas men are honored for their endeavors in the community and philanthropic spirit.  The event is called the Vegas Dozen and was started in 2003.  The men chosen range from celebrities, to entrepreneurs, to extraordinary volunteers.  These individuals are selected for going above and beyond the call of duty in order to make Las Vegas a better place to live.  Proceeds benefit Nevada Cancer Institute.

This year’s event was held on April 13, 2010 at Saks Fifth Avenue – Fashion Show Mall.  Desert Perinatal Associates is proud to announce that our very own Dr. Joseph Adashek was among the twelve honorees.
